Why does Copilot matter more than most teams realize?
Three structural reasons Copilot punches above its perceived weight.
Reason one: enterprise bundle distribution. Microsoft 365 has hundreds of millions of users globally; Copilot is the default AI experience inside that ecosystem. Many sites that rank well on Google have indexing issues on Bing they've never investigated. The fix is usually straightforward; the Copilot visibility upside is direct.
Signal two: enterprise-facing publication coverage. Microsoft 365 customers research through enterprise channels (Gartner, Forrester, CIO publications, vertical trade press) more than consumer ones. Brands with sustained coverage in these surfaces get cited at higher rates by Copilot than brands with mostly consumer-press coverage.
Signal three: Microsoft partner ecosystem presence. Brands listed in Microsoft AppSource, Microsoft's partner directory, or with formal Microsoft integration partnerships get cited more reliably by Copilot. The partnership signal is read as third-party Microsoft endorsement, which Copilot weights.
